'Wind of Tomorrow' - National Taichung University of Education Department of Fine Arts 115th Year Faculty Joint Exhibition
The National Taichung University of Education established the Taichung Teachers College Art Department in 1946, the first professional art education institution in the country. Renamed the Department of Fine Arts in 2004, it brings together Taiwan's academic art educators and renowned creators under one roof. Here, teachers and students jointly research art theory and practice, achieving excellent results in professional art fields and competitions. 'Facing the spring breeze, thoughts become vast'—this is the artist's hope to sense the environment, forge a state of mind, and create a realm of art. The Department of Fine Arts Faculty Joint Exhibition is held during the brilliant spring season, not only responding to the winds of the times within the context of the world and society but also hoping to showcase the artistic styles that educators and creators have continuously pursued and developed over the years.
The National Taichung University of Education Department of Fine Arts 115th Year Faculty Joint Exhibition is held simultaneously at the university's Truth-Seeking Art Center and the Lin Chih-chu Memorial Hall, hoping to offer audiences different aesthetic experiences and feelings through works of varying scales. The large-scale works in the 'Wind of Today' exhibition space present the creative styles and efforts of academic artists in sync with the times and society; the exquisite paintings of 'Wind of Tomorrow' provide the aesthetic imagery recorded by the artists. The former strives to establish style, while the latter combines site-specific forms to sketch the future path of art.
The exhibition theme 'Wind of Today, Wind of Tomorrow' alludes to the典故 of the educational spring breeze and the artistic spring breeze, using it to describe and express hope for the educational and artistic efforts of the Department of Fine Arts faculty. On the other hand, it also extends from the motto of the late Taiwanese painter Professor Lin Chih-chu (林之助), who served at the National Taichung University of Education for 34 years. Professor Lin Chih-chu transformed the Japanese proverb 'Tomorrow, tomorrow's wind will blow' into 'Tomorrow has tomorrow's wind blowing': the future will inevitably change, challenges will surely come, yet we need not be anxious; we should remain optimistic and focus on the work and efforts of the present moment. This is precisely the portrayal of the educational and artistic lives of the faculty and art creators of the National Taichung University of Education Department of Fine Arts.
