Weaving & Constructing - Taiping Indigenous Craft Exhibition
Cirorangay, meaning the place where paper mulberry trees grow.
This exhibition displays the fish traps, fish baskets, and paper mulberry bark crafts made by tribal elder Pan Ming-tung (潘明通) to revive the traditional fishing culture of the Amis tribe, highlighting the wisdom of indigenous people coexisting with nature. It also creates works that tell the story of the tribe rebuilding their homeland after the 921 earthquake, taking root and passing on their culture.
The exhibition covers photography, crafts, wood carving, and other types, presenting the culture of the Taiping Amis tribe in diverse ways. It also features the cross-domain creations of curator Liao Shu-chang (廖述昌), who uses discarded wood from reconstruction demolition, assembling and weaving it into artworks.
