The Ordinary; The Extraordinary | Lin Yu-chen (林妤臻) 2026 Solo Exhibition

Date: 2026-05-16 — 2026-06-14 Organizer: 林妤臻
The Ordinary; The Extraordinary daily ordinary ; extraordinary | Lin Yu-chen (林妤臻) 2026 Solo Exhibition will open on 5/16 (Sat.).

Are those seemingly ordinary corners truly just part of daily life?
For this exhibition titled "The Ordinary; The Extraordinary," artist Lin Yu-chen (林妤臻) attempts to capture those precious moments hidden within the everyday. Those fleeting instants, like fragments of light and shadow, flicker between memory and perception, becoming "rare treasures."
In terms of materials, artist Lin Yu-chen (林妤臻) primarily uses mineral pigments for her creations. Although mineral pigments are inherently opaque, the particles and layered application cause light to refract between lines and planes, generating unpredictable color gradations. This technique, originating from the Eastern painting system and combining animal glue with minerals, is also known as glue-color painting, Japanese painting, heavy-color painting, or rock-color painting. The raw minerals displayed on the exhibition table are the very source of these colors.
Some works also incorporate silver foil in parts. Through the effects of time, air, and humidity, the foil is allowed to oxidize naturally to an ideal state before being fixed with alum water. For the artist, the formation of the image is not simply a matter of "painting," but a result of the joint participation of light, material, and time.
Therefore, based on the content of this exhibition, Hsiao Lu Ying Hua (小路映画) has also curated a "Neighborhood Satellite Exhibition," allowing art not only to remain within the gallery but also to enter the walking paths of daily life.
During the exhibition period, three everyday spaces in the Tuku Li (土庫里) neighborhood around Hsiao Lu Ying Hua (小路映画) in the West District will be connected—ZASSO Grass (ZASSO 草也), Good Eat Eat Good (好吃吃好), and 8 Dou Coffee (8豆珈琲)—each displaying works selected by the artist for that specific space.
Viewers can move, linger, and observe within the neighborhood, allowing art to naturally permeate the everyday scenery. Simultaneously, we are launching a "Collectible Card Stamp Rally," where the public can pick up exhibition collectible cards at each location and exchange a completed set for limited-edition merchandise cards.
We hope this is not just an exhibition, but a neighborhood stroll about "exploring the beauty of daily life."
P.S. The satellite exhibition areas' visiting hours will follow the respective shops' business hours. Please check each exhibition area's operating days before your visit.
