Pillow on Mountain, Nest in Valley

This exhibition will be held at Yangxin Art from July 4 to August 8, 2026. The ancients often used the phrase "pillow on mountain, nest in valley" to express a spiritual aspiration to live in harmony with heaven and earth and to avoid worldly conventions. In contemporary times, three artists—Hsueh Hsing-piao (薛行彪), Wang Ping-i (王炳懿), and Yang I-hsuan (楊奕軒)—use color and special techniques to open up a space with a bodily sense on a two-dimensional canvas. They redefine the "mountain" in traditional literati structure from a contemporary perspective, transforming objective natural rocks into material textures on the canvas, stacking, carving, and laying down rock layers, crevices, and folds that belong to individual perception, giving natural landscapes a new contemporary vocabulary.
