Military Dependents' Village Observation Station: Spectral Research of Old Objects

Date: 2026-03-29 — 2026-06-28 Organizer: 臺中市政府文化局
The exhibition adopts the concept of an 'observation station,' transforming seemingly ordinary old objects into mediums for observing the passage of time. In the 'Daily Spectrum Room,' many old objects from military dependents' villages are displayed, such as mottled porcelain plates, beaded handbags, or suitcases. The 'Time Sample Bank' treats old objects as specimens of life, combining oral history and situational reenactment to construct a complete archive of living memories. Another exhibition area also features a large aluminum basin, a solid wood table, and models of military dependents' village cuisine, presenting the food culture and family daily life of these villages, showcasing the strength of mothers supporting their families with limited resources. The exhibition concludes with the theme 'Family Galaxy,' using objects as metaphors for family relationships, guiding the audience to contemplate the continuation of emotions and memories.

'Military Dependents' Village Observation Station: Spectral Research of Old Objects' collects and displays everyday objects from military dependents' villages through different exhibition areas, hoping to lead the audience to re-read the traces of daily life in these villages and see the multiple facets of military dependents' village memories.
