"Leisurely Picking Up Time – A City Stroll Belonging to the Lingering Warmth of Taiwan's Alleys" Theme Book Exhibition
Exhibition Period: June 2, 2026 – June 30, 2026
Exhibition Content:
Taiwan's cities are organic entities formed by layers of history. From the winding alleys of the Qing Dynasty, the orderly street grids of the Japanese colonial period, to the post-war mixed scenery of iron window grilles, every alley is embedded with the life tracks of residents. This book exhibition uses "Let's Eat! Old Taichung" (or related stroll books) as an index, leading readers to put down maps and navigation and walk into the long river of time woven from red bricks and asphalt.
We focus on the "spatial craftsmanship" behind the streets, seeing how the city has rubbed out a charming lingering warmth over the long years:
The Subtraction Aesthetics of Alley Texture: The craft of city strolling lies in learning to "leave blank." Unlike the hustle of main roads, old streets and alleys pursue ultimate gentleness to the senses. When strollers avoid main thoroughfares and turn into narrow, winding gaps, this spatial reduction instead brings psychological spaciousness. This is an extremely delicate "slow-living culture," emphasizing the tranquility of light and shadow and the gentleness of footsteps.
The Addition Aesthetics of Architectural Components: In contrast to the delicacy of alleys, the facades of Taiwan's old buildings showcase the vitality of everyday life. Through the interweaving of washed concrete walls, glazed tiles, and wooden window frames, residents embed their attention to life into the city's face. This decorative craft emphasizing "layers" carries local artisans' guardianship of living quality, allowing every upward glance to see the elegant imprints sedimented by time.
The Cultural Collision of Strolling Space: The exhibition's core explores how "walking" breaks life's boundaries. When old arcades meet emerging cultural and creative corners, it not only changes how we view the city but also drives the aesthetic revolution of neighborhood revitalization and lifestyle taste. Strolling in modern times is not just movement but an awakening about "sense of place," a trendy window to reconnect oneself with the land.
This book exhibition is not just a display of scenery but also a collective tracing of memory. You are invited to walk into this reading river constructed from bricks and stories, and from the contrasts in street details, re-appreciate the harmonious, open, and richly layered spatial charm of Taiwan's cities.
