Lacquer Rhythms, Modern Colors - Wang Ching-yuan Lacquer Art Creation Exhibition

Date: 2026-04-24 — 2026-06-14 Organizer: 王清源
Thanks to the Fengyuan Lacquerware Museum for the opportunity to promote the beauty of lacquer art. This exhibition focuses on flat lacquer paintings, supplemented by three-dimensional works. The themes include: figures, animals, flowers... pursuing the inner feelings of the artistic creator and the profound spiritual sincerity and cultural characteristics hidden within.
Humans began using natural lacquer 7,000 years ago, with [lacquerware] as its representative, also a synonym for nobility. Three-dimensional, decorative, flat, or placed, its practicality for objects was primary. Due to changes in modern lifestyles and the diversity of materials, in an environment emphasizing mass production, speed, and affordability, the decline of lacquerware is a natural evolutionary rule.
[Lacquer art] has a restrained luster, soft, mellow, and a warm, intimate feel. Techniques include drawing, painting, dyeing, sprinkling, spraying, wiping, carving, scraping, inlaying, piling, coating, pasting, polishing, patting, pushing... among many others. It can also be combined with eggshell, seashell, sand, stone, beetle shell, metal powder, flakes, layers, foil, thread, granules, wood chips, dried lacquer powder, bone materials, colored foil... Therefore, lacquer painting belongs to a multi-media, multi-technique, composite and diverse category, a newly emerging painting genre in modern times.
