In the green mountains of Onomichi City, Hiroshima, centenarian Grandma Ishii Tetsuyo (石井哲代) lives alone in her old house. She was once a passionate elementary school teacher, had no children after marriage, spent half a century with her husband, and became a widow at 83. Yet loneliness has not rusted her soul. This film, shot over three years, captures Grandma Tetsuyo's daily life from ages 101 to 104. Even as age gradually "rusts" her body, she always manages to enjoy life to the fullest. Aging and loneliness are not scary. Grandma Tetsuyo, with her wrinkled yet warm hands, demonstrates how to gracefully and joyfully have a century-long love affair with the world.
