Imitating the Ancients, Opening New Paths, Jointly Writing Brilliance ~ 2026 Xi'an Forest of Steles Cross-Strait Calligraphy Imitation Exhibition
This exhibition has been held since 2021, conducted in the format of collection in the first year and touring exhibition in the following year. The year 2026 marks the third edition, showcasing one hundred award-winning calligraphy imitation submissions from both sides of the strait and twenty demonstration works by renowned calligraphers; simultaneously, the Xi'an Forest of Steles has also selected famous steles from its collection for a dedicated introduction area.
In addition to the imitation works, the Xi'an Forest of Steles has specially selected and introduced ten major steles from its collection, including 'Stone Platform Classic of Filial Piety,' 'Nestorian Stele,' 'Yan Family Temple Stele,' 'Cao Quan Stele,' 'Duobao Pagoda Response Stele,' 'Mysterious Tower Stele,' 'Huangfu Dan Stele,' and 'Yan Qinli Stele.' Among them, the 'Stele of the Preface to the Sacred Teachings Collected by Wang Xizhi' is currently the only extant complete Jin Dynasty rubbing made before the stele fractured (replica of the original rubbing), not to be missed.
The exhibition venue features special installations such as character creation games, trait code spinners, restoration of the Six Steeds of Zhao Mausoleum, stele inscription steel seal bookmarks, and dry rubbing experiences, as well as multiple cultural lectures and workshops, all free to register for on a first-come, first-served basis until full.
