The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Nantou County Government actively promotes local cultural preservation. Collaborating with the Nantou County Literature Archives and the Wang Ying-hsin Art Museum, and focusing on local betel-nut culture, artist Wang Hsiung-kuo has curated "Betel-nut Propriety: A Special Exhibition on Taiwan's Betel-nut Culture." The exhibition aims to present the historical trajectory and diverse cultural significance of Taiwan's betel-nut culture through rich display content, promoting intergenerational cultural dialogue, and the preservation and inheritance of local culture.
"Betel-nut Propriety: A Special Exhibition on Taiwan's Betel-nut Culture" is an exhibition about memory, understanding, and reconstruction. It hopes to let more people understand the stories of the multiple roles betel nut plays in Taiwanese society and to awaken the cultural identity of local residents. The exhibition is held at the "1962 Art Space" within the Wang Ying-hsin Art Museum complex. This red-tiled house, built in 1962, carries the profound historical memory of Nantou's local culture. The exhibition is planned with six thematic areas, including "Getting to Know Betel Nut," "Betel Nut and Literature," "Betel Nut and Music," "Betel Nut Literature and Archival Photographs," "Memories of the First-Generation Betel Nut Stalls," and "Shuangdong Betel Nut Images," comprehensively showcasing Taiwan's betel-nut culture from the 1930s to the 1990s.
