Formless New Vision - 2026 Taichung City Tzuying Calligraphy and Painting Society (臺中市慈影書畫學會) Members' Joint Exhibition

The Taichung City Tzuying Calligraphy and Painting Society (臺中市慈影書畫學會) was formerly the "Tzuying Calligraphy and Painting Research Studio" founded by Mr. Wang Jung-wu (王榮武) in 1976 (Minguo 65), and was officially registered as a society in 2020 (Minguo 109). Since its founding, it has always aimed to promote the art of calligraphy and painting and to pass on cultural spirit. Through generations of inheritance and development, it has gradually established a stable and sustainable platform for artistic exchange.

This society has long been dedicated to the research and teaching of calligraphy and ink painting, actively cultivating teaching talent, and through exhibitions, competitions, and various cultural activities, it promotes the rooting of calligraphy and painting art and expands public understanding and participation in Eastern aesthetics. The members have diverse backgrounds, spanning different generations and creative orientations, continuously exploring personal styles on the foundation of traditional brush and ink, shaping an artistic energy that combines inheritance and innovation.

In recent years, in addition to continuing to hold members' joint exhibitions, the society has also hosted the "Taichung Port Science and Technology Industrial Park Tzuying Cup Calligraphy Competition (臺中港科技產業園區慈影盃書法比賽)," using the competition mechanism to promote the spread and exchange of calligraphy art, encouraging different age groups to participate in the culture of writing, and injecting new vitality into traditional art. In the future, it will continue to deepen art education and cultural inheritance, promoting the diverse development and practice of calligraphy and painting art in contemporary society.

"Formless New Vision - 2026 Taichung City Tzuying Calligraphy and Painting Society Members' Joint Exhibition" takes traditional calligraphy and painting art as its core, presenting the diverse creative faces of contemporary development. The exhibition content covers various forms of expression including calligraphy, ink landscape, flowers and birds, figures, and color ink. Through the use of different media and techniques, it demonstrates the extension and transformation of brush-and-ink art in a contemporary context.

This exhibition is titled "Formless New Vision," drawing on the philosophical meaning of "the image of the imageless" from Lao Tzu (老子), emphasizing that artistic creation is not limited to the reproduction of external forms but lies in the generation of inner spirit and artistic conception. Most of the exhibited works are based on traditional brush and ink, incorporating the creators' observations and insights into life, environment, and era, developing a visual vocabulary with contemporary perception amidst the blending of the virtual and the real.

In terms of creative expression, the works combine freehand expression with meticulous and refined forms, presenting diverse variations in brush-and-ink rhythm and spatial composition. Some works also use color ink to enhance the layers of the picture and visual tension, allowing traditional calligraphy and painting to retain the spirit of brush and ink while displaying richer expressive possibilities.

In addition, this exhibition specially features award-winning works from the society's "Taichung Port Science and Technology Industrial Park Tzuying Cup Calligraphy Competition," presenting the concrete results of calligraphy art in promotion and education. Through the impetus of the competition mechanism, calligraphy is not only a form of artistic creation but also becomes an important cultural medium connecting different generations.
