"Floral Realm (花境)" - Solo Exhibition by Lin Jung-yu (林容瑜)
This exhibition, titled "Floral Realm (花境)," is not merely about depicting the postures of plants, but attempts to construct a sensory world between reality and fantasy. For the creator, every flower, every insect and bird is the most sincere actor in this vast world. Beyond simply depicting flowers, elements such as insects and birds are introduced as the soul of the picture. The addition of these creatures instantly breaks the silence of the still life, endowing the picture with profound narrative. These insects and birds are not random embellishments, but one of the protagonists of the picture's story. Through their postures, the picture seems to have sound and breath, also metaphorically representing the rhythm and tension of survival in the natural world. This narrative method allows the painting to transcend mere botanical illustration, transforming into a small theater about vitality, the laws of nature, and the artist's emotional projection. Here, flowers are no longer just flowers; they are spaces carrying stories. Insects are no longer just insects; they are spirits leading the viewer into a different space. The exhibition title "Floral Realm" refers both to the natural habitat where flowers and trees grow and symbolizes the "state of mind" refined by the artist's imagination. It selects the most familiar flowers from daily life—from elegant orchids and passionate roses to tall hollyhocks and graceful amaryllis. These plants are endowed with unique personalities on the canvas through meticulous observation and brushwork. It invites viewers to stop their hurried steps, enter this secluded realm woven from oil paint and canvas, and re-examine the subtle beauties that coexist with us yet are often forgotten. Additionally, I have attempted to add textures of silver leaf, copper leaf, aluminum leaf, or mottled effects in the background, transforming the flowers into something akin to spiritual totems. This approach gives the works both classical elegance and modern visual impact, challenging viewers' perception of traditional flower-and-bird painting and leading them into a deeper aesthetic experience.
