White Eagle in the Clouds – A Special Exhibition on the Hodgson's Hawk-Eagle

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-19 Organizer: 台灣猛禽研究會
The Hodgson's Hawk-Eagle is one of Taiwan's largest resident raptors, extremely rare to spot in the wild and an endangered protected wildlife species. This special exhibition has specially borrowed a Hodgson's Hawk-Eagle specimen from the Biodiversity Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, allowing everyone to observe the raptor's sharp beak and powerful talons up close.
Although the specimen must be properly preserved and cannot be touched, the exhibition hall has prepared more surprises that you can 'experience firsthand':
A life-size 3D-printed model of the Hodgson's Hawk-Eagle's talons
Allows you to actually feel the size and strength of a raptor's sharp claws
A specially made kettlebell equal to the weight of an adult Reeve's muntjac (complete with a little tail!)
According to nearly six years of research records from Yushan National Park, Hodgson's Hawk-Eagles in the southern park area often prey on large animals like Reeve's muntjacs. Don't be fooled by the hawk-eagle's weight, which may be less than 3 kilograms—it can use air currents to carry prey weighing over 6 kilograms back to its nest! At the exhibition, you can personally lift the 'Muntjac Kettlebell' to feel their astonishing strength and flying ability.
This exhibition covers the Hodgson's Hawk-Eagle's physical appearance and the origin of its name, nestling monitoring, activity patterns, dietary research, and its symbolic significance in indigenous cultures. It also incorporates the research results from the Sun Yuan-hsun (孫元勳) research team at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology since 2019 in Yushan National Park, as well as precious footage filmed by director Liang Chieh-te (梁皆得). The content is rich and fascinating.
