[New Taipei City Main Library] Promoting Urban Aesthetics - Architect's Works Exhibition 'Digital Reconstruction of a Century of Urban Landscape Exhibition'
Exhibition Outline:
The starting point for this digital restoration of Taipei's urban landscape focuses on representative, well-known landmarks within Taipei City over the past century that have completely vanished in the present environment as the primary research subjects. Traditionally, architectural appreciation, if not of existing structures, could only be understood in outline from drawings, photos, and limited preserved cultural materials. However, this viewing method has its limitations: viewers can easily be confused by professional diagrams or troubled by existing blurry photos, thus lacking a sense of presence and making it difficult to evoke resonance. The restored images created through computers are the integrated results of our rigorous research. The initial process requires matching cadastral maps, aerial photos, and known photographs, piecing together the non-existent buildings bit by bit. The preliminary results are like the Ministry of Culture's National Architectural Digital Database—essentially a file folder, just a base, unable to exert the power to move people. Therefore, the true creation starts from the post-production of modeling, introducing the computer model into scenes to express the creator's perspective on that building. At this point, the creator's role shifts from a professional architect to a photographer using different angles to lead the audience into a specific environment. Through specially arranged scenes paired with high-resolution, large-format full-color image output, the resulting impact is immense. So, this was the urban landscape of Taipei a hundred years ago!
