Exhibition Introduction |
"Glaze Sees a Wisp of Smoke: A Gaze at Time, Temperature, and Memory" takes overglaze enamels as its core, exploring the interwoven relationship between time, temperature, and everyday memory in ceramic art. Overglaze enamels, a technique involving painting on a high-temperature fired glaze surface and then refiring at a lower temperature, allow colors to remain on the surface, presenting a delicate and layered visual language, and opening up a narrative space akin to painting for the objects.
This exhibition invites teachers Lin Fa-chuan (林發權) and Wang Hsuan-wen (王宣文) to participate. In Lin Fa-chuan's works, colors diffuse and intertwine like smoke, as if memories gradually blur yet never dissipate over time. His works often feature flowing lines and rhythmic compositions, developing new ideas on a traditional foundation and transforming fragments of daily life into visual poetry. Teacher Wang Hsuan-wen integrates concepts from Western art into porcelain painting creation. The expression of overglaze enamels in her work features steady and introspective brushstrokes, conveying spiritual insights and inviting quiet contemplation.
"Wisp of smoke" here not only symbolizes daily life but also points to the continuation of culture and the accumulation of emotion. Through the refiring and transformation of overglaze enamels, the works are like the overwriting and sedimentation of memory, reflecting a contemporary expression of the interweaving of life and art between luster and smoky shadows.
Lin Fa-chuan was born in Macau and began learning painted porcelain craftsmanship early on. He later moved to Ying-ko and has long been deeply involved in overglaze enamel creation and teaching promotion. He specializes in Ch'ing palace enamel porcelain and integrates religious imagery with Eastern aesthetics. His works are exquisite, gorgeous, richly layered, possessing both craftsmanship depth and cultural heritage. His works have also been collected by important institutions.
Wang Hsuan-wen has a professional background in fine arts. She studied under Lin Fa-chuan, combining traditional Canton enamel techniques with her personal aesthetic foundation and long-term insights from Buddhist Dharma, developing a porcelain painting vocabulary that blends a sense of life with spirituality. Her creations range from floral vessels to Bodhisattva imagery, with steady brushstrokes and a serene temperament, showcasing delicate and restrained ceramic expression.
