Craft Taiwan: The Path to Sustainability

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: 國立臺灣工藝研究發展中心
Since Yen Shui-long (顏水龍) founded the "Nantou County Craft Research Class" in 1954, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute has been in existence for over 70 years. Building on the "Living Craft, Craft Life" concept proposed in 2024, 2025 further introduces "Craft 70+1," responding to the future value of craft from a new perspective. It promotes "SLOHAS (Slow Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) is a Joyful Living Matter," highlighting an attitude that "Craft is a leisurely wave of happiness, a matter of living."

"SLOHAS is a Joyful Living Matter" is a lifestyle attitude that combines local thinking with Slow Living (SLOW) and Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS). Its core values include Simplicity, Lifestyle, Originality, Health, Aesthetics, and Sustainability, emphasizing that "SLOHAS is a Joyful Living Matter" forms an infinite "Good Craft" cycle from S to S.

"Craft Taiwan: The Path to Sustainability" is based on the "SLOHAS" attitude towards craft, planning a historical context exhibition for the "Craft Center." Titled "Craft Taiwan: The Path to Sustainability," it is exhibited on the fourth floor of the Craft Culture Hall.

The exhibition uses a timeline to present the transformation of Taiwanese craft from tradition to the present, further exploring how contemporary craft integrates sustainable development concepts. Starting from Yen Shui-long's "Taiwan Craft," through different periods of craft development, up to today's "Craft Taiwan," it seeks intersection points between history and innovation. From the three major aspects of industrial development, talent cultivation, and cultural promotion, it outlines the era significance and craft value of the Craft Center's response to national policies across different periods.
