Bamboo Rhythm, Inheriting Light - Exhibition of Award-Winning Works from the Bamboo Craft Product Development Competition
To showcase the innovative achievements and cultural value of bamboo craftsmanship, the Nantou County Government Cultural Affairs Bureau is organizing the "Bamboo Rhythm, Inheriting Light - Exhibition of Award-Winning Works from the Bamboo Craft Product Development Competition." The exhibition brings together the award-winning works from past competitions, presenting the diverse development of bamboo craft creation over more than twenty years in terms of technique, design, and practical applications in daily life.
Bamboo is warm, delicate, and combines flexibility with strength, having been integrated into daily utensils and cultural imagery since ancient times. The Bamboo Craft Product Development Competition has long encouraged creators to incorporate contemporary design thinking based on traditional craftsmanship, extending bamboo craft from everyday objects into the realms of spatial aesthetics and innovative products, gradually establishing creative achievements with both cultural depth and market potential. The award-winning works from past competitions presented in this exhibition are an important microcosm of this developmental journey.
The name "Bamboo Rhythm, Inheriting Light" signifies the spirit and style contained within bamboo craft, inheriting the brilliance of past exemplary works. Through a systematic review of the collection, the exhibition traces the evolution of bamboo craft in terms of formal vocabulary, structural techniques, and design transformation, highlighting its important position and contemporary significance as a local cultural asset. The bamboo artists who have won first prize in past competitions and are featured in this exhibition are Wu Mei-chu (吳美菊), Wu Liu-yen (吳柳燕), Liu Su-ju (劉素茹), Wu Ming-chang (吳明錩), Wu Kuo-shu (吳國書), Chen Kuei-mei (陳桂美), Huang Kuei-chu (黃桂珠), Chen Chen-kuan (陳震寬), Chen Yi-an (陳怡安), Chen Shih-po (陳識博), Hsu Ming-shan (許銘珊), Lin Shu-chun (林淑君), Li Hui-chen (李慧珍), Chih Ming-cheng (池明政), Hsu Ming-shan (許銘珊), Hung Kuei-ying (洪貴英), Chen Ying-chih (陳盈池), Chang Wen-te (張文德), Liu Tsung-yueh (劉宗岳), and Lin Tsung-chi (林琮琪).
The exhibition space is designed with a simple and serene tone, emphasizing the presentation of material texture and craft details, guiding visitors to appreciate the warm texture of bamboo in a quiet and elegant space and to experience the temporal depth and aesthetics of life embedded in the craft spirit. The exhibition not only reviews past achievements but also looks forward to future development, hoping to continue deepening the dialogue between cultural preservation and innovative design in bamboo craft through the display of the collection. We sincerely invite everyone to visit and witness the cultural power of bamboo craft inheriting light and continuing to shine in contemporary life.
