Theater
2026 Miaoli Performing Arts Festival - City Focus Series "Nevertheless, Siddhartha (然而,悉達多)" (Corporate Inclusive Private Screening)
"I particularly like the handling of the language in this play."
"The overall stage art composition and flowing visuals are truly beautiful!"
"I love the treatment of 'time' in this play."
"When I walked into the theater, I felt I wasn't watching a story, but entering a deep spiritual flow."
"Although I haven't read the original 'Siddhartha,' through the adapted text, I could feel a different vitality, like the struggle between two selves and the mutual envy between two friends... It gave me a different insight into a life full of stories."
On this side of the river is my beloved; on the other side of the river is the pursuit of my life.
This boat is as heavy as a rock, my heart sways like an oar.
Can I abandon everything and leave?
Siddhartha, the chosen one possessing all beauty and wealth.
To seek the path of life, he resolutely leaves home; yet on his ascetic journey, he falls in love with Kamala.
Her lips hold the secrets of love, her beautiful body writes happiness.
But is this a scripture leading to salvation, or a phantom before堕落 suicide?
Assembling a creative team from Taiwan, India, and Japan, with live Indian musicians singing on site.
This is also director Chiang Tan-chia-yen's (江譚佳彥) third reinterpretation of Hermann Hesse's classic. This character, based on the story of the Buddha, returns from Germany to the script of Indian director Chiang Tan-chia-yen, blending the novel's profound philosophical reflections with deeply emotional narrative. Amid the melodious live singing of Indian musicians, Siddhartha once again dialogues with his own soul on the contemporary stage, navigating the dilemma between the pursuit of truth and familial love, leading the audience on a journey of spiritual fulfillment.
