This River is Divine! Online Exhibition of Faith Stories from the Kao-p'ing River Basin
The Kao-p'ing River, anciently known as the Hsia-tan-shui River, is Taiwan's second longest river. Since ancient times, it has nourished the lives of countless ethnic groups and fostered a rich culture of faith. Across this river basin, mountains, forests, and plains intertwine; ethnic migrations have built settlements, leaving behind traces of history. The river flows like a thread, connecting people and deities, ethnic groups and land. From the nature worship of indigenous peoples upstream, to the folk festivals of Hakka villages in the midstream, and down to the traditions passed down through generations in Hoklo settlements downstream, this is a long river carrying faith and reflecting life. Let us follow the river's pulse downstream, walk alongside the deities, step into the stories of the ethnic groups, and witness the folk customs flourishing along its banks...
