"Splendor of Totems": 2026 Joint Exhibition of Members of the Formosa Pattern Stone Art Association
Taiwan is an island. Under the geographical environment of the Central Mountain Range and being surrounded by sea on all sides, many naturally formed pattern stones have been nurtured. The coastal areas of Hualien and Taitung, where they originate, have strong winds and high waves year after year. It is under such natural conditions that Nantien pattern stones are constantly tumbled and washed, resulting in each Nantien stone having a rounded exterior and soft lines, full and symmetrical, with a hard texture and simple patterns. The black-and-white contrast gives people a pleasing feeling.
Nantien pattern stones have their own natural thematic patterns, such as figures, flying birds, plants, and landscape scenery. Beyond these, there is also abstract art. Their lines are concise and powerful, with vigorous strength, either hard or soft, thick or thin, hidden or visible, all resembling masterful freehand brushwork paintings. Although just a few simple strokes outline the image, the artistic conception is profound and thought-provoking, with the utmost craftsmanship and natural creation contained within.
