Reconstructing Vision: The Diverse Imagery of Nawat Cubic (Nawat Cubic筆下的多元意象)
About This Exhibition
William Makepeace Thackeray once said: "Life is a mirror: if you frown at it, it frowns back; if you smile, it returns the greeting." The richness of life depends on how we perceive it, and art is a reflection of life. When we change our perspective on life, art responds accordingly.
The Cubist painters of the twentieth century abandoned the single vanishing-point perspective dominant since the Renaissance, adopting multiple viewpoints and deconstruction to perceive things. Pablo Picasso said: "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child." Cubist art is a relatively rare area in the Chang Hsing Museum of Art (長興美術館) collection. With the support of founder Kao Ying-shih (高英士), the museum began collecting works by emerging Thai artist Nawat Cubic in 2025, and, following the same trajectory of artistic development, it has significantly enriched the museum's oil painting collection.
Nawat has long used Cubism as the core of his creative practice, skillfully employing mixed media and diverse color variations to create visual tension, giving his works a distinctly unique character. To ensure accurate interpretation of the works, the museum commissioned the artist to help analyze his creative concepts and techniques during the curation process, and also obtained exclusive authorization to display his original manuscripts and material charts, providing audiences with the most complete information to understand this artist and his works.
This exhibition is divided into four major themes: "Artist Background Introduction," "Social Observation and the 'Diversity' Series," "Stylistic Evolution and Breakthroughs from Childhood to the Present," and "Nawat Cubic and Contemporary Cubism." Besides presenting the creations of this young painter, it also allows viewers to gain a deeper understanding of Cubist art and glimpse the development of contemporary Southeast Asian art.
