"Plant Narratives: The Life Narratives of Paiwan (排灣) Pandanus Weaving" Special Exhibition

Date: 2026-04-11 — 2026-08-02 Organizer: 彰化縣原住民生活館
This exhibition is co-organized with the Taichung City Government Indigenous Peoples Affairs Commission (臺中市政府原住民族事務委員會). It is carried out by the Taichung City Indigenous Cultural Center (臺中市原住民文化館) for the 114th year Indigenous Cultural Center Field Survey and Indigenous Cultural Education Promotion Activity - Paiwan Pandanus Traditional Weaving Techniques and Applications, completed in collaboration with the Taobuli Cultural Creation Space (桃布里文化創作空間) teaching materials. With "pandanus" as the theme, pandanus is an important plant for the Paiwan people, widely used in weaving crafts and carrying the meaning of family memory and cultural heritage. The exhibition content ranges from plant knowledge, collection ethics, material processing, to weaving techniques, fully presenting how the Paiwan people make good use of mountain forest resources to develop traditional crafts that are both practical and culturally significant.

The exhibition space will use diverse display methods such as illustrated panels, photographs, and physical exhibits to introduce the cultural context and craft stories of pandanus weaving, leading the audience to understand how indigenous peoples converse with the land through their hands, transforming plants into everyday objects and cultural symbols, showcasing the wisdom of coexistence between humans and nature.

It is hoped that through this exhibition, more people will gain a deeper understanding of indigenous cultural content and the value of traditional crafts, while also raising society's attention to the preservation and传承 of indigenous culture. During the exhibition period, related cultural lectures and pandanus weaving hands-on experience courses will also be planned, allowing the public to get closer to indigenous craft culture through actual participation.
