Opening the Picture Box - Art in Kaohsiung "Wang Chen-chen Ink Painting Creation 20-Year Retrospective Exhibition"
Wang Chen-chen (王珍珍) is an ink painting creator who has long been deeply rooted in Kaohsiung. From a young age, she showed high sensitivity and interest in painting, naturally grasping changes in form and line. Her learning process is based on the fundamentals of traditional ink painting, and through long-term practice and observation, she gradually established a personal style. She is particularly fond of the rhythm, blank space, and spirit contained in ink painting, believing that brush and ink are not just for depicting external forms, but also a way to dialogue with the inner self.
In her apprenticeship and learning process, Wang Chen-chen values the spirit of "learning from nature." Through observing life and traveling mountains and rivers, she internalizes what she sees and feels into creative energy. She does not deliberately pursue formal extravagance, but returns to the most essential spirit of ink painting—using brush and ink to carry emotion, using the picture to respond to life experiences. Her creative attitude is deeply influenced by her family's artistic atmosphere and faith, causing her works to naturally reveal qualities of warmth, restraint, and rich humanistic care.
Wang Chen-chen's creative themes mainly cover two categories: figures and landscapes. Figure paintings draw from daily life, from the affection between grandparents and grandchildren, the innocence of childhood, the friendship between teachers and students, to the resilience and gentleness shown by women in life, all become objects she repeatedly depicts. Her focus is not just on appearance, but on the emotional connections and life states between figures, hoping that through the picture, viewers can feel the truth and warmth in humanity.
In landscape creation, Wang Chen-chen takes nature as her teacher, transforming the mountain and river scenes from her travels into the hills and valleys in her heart. The mountains and water in her paintings are not just descriptions of scenery, but also projections of her state of mind. The exuberance of waterfalls, the tranquility of streams, the peacefulness of mountain dwellings all present her reverence and understanding of heaven, earth, and all things. She hopes viewers can temporarily slow down before the paintings, gaining moments of sedimentation and peace within the brush and ink.
For Wang Chen-chen, creation is a path that walks alongside life. Through ink painting, she continues to explore herself, respond to the world, and also transform the emotions and reflections of the years into artistic experiences shared with viewers.
