"On This Night of Epiphany, Take Me to the Moon" Chang Yu-sheng Memorial Musical Theater

"On This Night of Epiphany, Take Me to the Moon" takes Chang Yu-sheng's (張雨生) classic musical works as its soul core, integrating drama, singing, chorus, dance, and live演奏 to create an original musical theater work exclusive to Penghu. Born on June 7, 1966, in Makung Duxing 10th Village (篤行十村), Penghu, Chang Yu-sheng was a highly representative singer-songwriter in the history of Chinese pop music. His father originally intended to name him "Peng-sheng" (澎生) to commemorate his birthplace, but because Penghu, which rarely rains, experienced consecutive rainy days around his birth, he was named "Yu-sheng" (雨生, meaning "rain-born"). With his high-pitched, clear voice and poetic creations, he left behind beloved works such as "My Future Is Not a Dream" (我的未來不是夢), "Thinking of You Every Day" (天天想你), and "Take Me to the Moon" (帶我去月球), becoming an important memory of countless people's youth. This musical theater takes the concept "Some voices, heard only once in a lifetime, are remembered for thirty years" as its theme. Starting from Penghu, it re-gathers youth, dreams, and regrets through music. The story is set in Penghu in 1991, depicting music-loving teenager Yeh Feng-ching (葉逢青) and girl Yang Chien-yi (楊倩怡), who are separated due to life choices and family factors but remain connected through letters and music. Through thirty years of time passing, between reunion and memories, the audience follows the characters to re-experience the unspoken emotions of youth and the most sincere and moving power in Chang Yu-sheng's music. This play is co-created by director-screenwriter Chang Yang-hsuan (張仰瑄) and music designer Wu Yang (伍暘), starring Kao Li-hua (高麗華) and Chang Leng (張稜), and collaborating with Penghu local cultural and artistic groups, including Star Voice Chorus (星聲代合唱團), Little Star Piano Trio (小星辰鋼琴三重奏), and Chi Yang Art Dance Troupe (啟陽藝術舞團), showcasing the stage charm interwoven with local culture and professional theater creation.
