"Lu Pi-ch'uan, the Hermit of Pi-feng Mountain, was born during the troubled times of Japanese rule and grew up in the turbulent era of Taiwan. He witnessed the rise and fall of Han learning and personally experienced the difficulty of cultural transmission. His lifelong passion was poetry first, and his travels were most often for poetry. Even amidst the clamor of the world, his talent flowed from his brush with elegant diction, winning gold awards without falling behind others; even in old age with waning strength, his poems continued to pour forth, unaffected by praise or criticism. The poet's persistence is also his endearing and admirable quality.
Elder Lu Pi-ch'uan, whose poetic talent is renowned far and wide, is particularly celebrated in poetry circles for the swiftness of his composition. To date, he has published the "Pi-ch'uan Yin-ts'ao" (碧銓吟草) series of poetry collections, totaling five hefty volumes, an achievement difficult for ordinary people to match. Both his act of composing poetry and his poetic works are the focus of attention in contemporary poetry circles.
