Embracing Splendor Once More: Looking Back a Century, Moving Towards the Next Century
Nearly a decade has passed since the 2016 'Hidden Art for a Century -- Rediscovering the Splendor of Saisiyat Century-Old Attire Special Exhibition' sparked a profound dialogue from threads to history. That look back allowed us to re-examine the fabrics and patterns covered by time, and gradually understand—Saisiyat attire was never a static cultural specimen, but rather a trace of life carrying memory, emotion, and life wisdom, flowing between generations.
Today, a decade later, we return to this starting point, but the direction is no longer just 'rediscovery.' In the context of rapid global change and cultural transformation, Saisiyat weaving art is entering another stage—a path facing both ancestors and the future. This exhibition focuses not only on the beauty of attire forms and craftsmanship, but also on the long-term labor of weaver women, the involvement of returning youth, the companionship of cultural workers, and the practical journey tribes undertake between tradition and innovation.
In 2026, we will gather again at the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines. Through this special exhibition, we will see how the Saisiyat people's colored threads are being rewoven in contemporary times; see how attire is generated from rituals, families, and daily life; and see how innovation grows and continues within understanding and respect.
More importantly, we will see together—the reason culture endures is never just about being preserved, but about people continuously weaving it, thread by thread, with their hands, their bodies, and their lives.
