In Darjeeling, a small town at the foot of the Himalayas in India, a devout Tibetan Buddhist monk named Zhaxi (扎西) is sent to Japan to continue his spiritual practice. There, he meets an eccentric elderly man and his granddaughter Emi (惠美), who is out on parole. As Zhaxi grows closer to them, the distance between the lonely Emi and Zhaxi gradually narrows, and a forbidden emotion begins to emerge between them.
