July 2026 [Nankuan and Peikuan Music and Opera Hall - Thematic Book Exhibition]

Date: 2026-07-01 — 2026-07-31 Organizer: 彰化縣文化局
Nankuan music is renowned for its elegant and delicate melodies and warm, refined timbre, enjoying the reputation of "Millennium Pure Sound" and "Imperial Court Pure Sound." This long-standing musical form took root and developed as early settlers crossed the sea to Taiwan, with the Lukang area preserving it most completely. It is closely linked to local history and culture, becoming one of the important cultural symbols of Changhua. To this day, three century-old Nankuan groups, Ya-cheng Chai (雅正齋), Chu-ying She (聚英社), and O-yun Chai (遏雲齋), continue to pass on the tradition, perpetuating the splendor of this ancient music.
This thematic book exhibition, "Voices from the Collection: Seeing the Beauty of Nankuan," carefully selects Nankuan finger notations (指譜), tune types (曲牌), performance forms, and related precious collection items, combining books and audiovisual materials to guide viewers into the world of Nankuan through the dual senses of "seeing" and "hearing." Whether readers are encountering it for the first time or are already familiar with this melody, they can rediscover the profound depth and unique charm of Nankuan here.
