Hung Hsing-fu (洪醒夫) Literary Memorial Park - Public Art and Literary Walkway

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: 彰化縣文化局
Hung Hsing-fu (洪醒夫) Literary Memorial Park covers 1.7 hectares and features a public art area, a pond, slides, a skating rink, a basketball court, and several artistic installations.

The public art area contains four artworks, all bronze statues, said to be a statue of Hung Hsing-fu as a youth, a statue of an ox, as well as "Uncle Ch'ing-shui's (清水伯) Plow and Hoe" and "A Boy Catching Crickets." All are drawn from the common people and rural life depicted in Hung Hsing-fu's literary works. This is the only scene with a somewhat "concrete literary" representation.

The bronze statues vividly express the characteristics of Hung Hsing-fu as a "peasant novelist," which is quite rare. Strolling through the park, one can reminisce about the past while feeling as if transported to a rural village 50 years ago, smelling the scent of the earth—it is itself a literary life experience.

In early 2025, to promote the literary spirit of Hung Hsing-fu, an initiative was launched by Li Chin-yuan (黎錦源), a fellow townsman from Erhlin Township and a classmate of Hung Hsing-fu's younger brother Hung Ma-liang (洪媽量). It was jointly sponsored and donated by 10 community leaders including T'ang Cheng-ch'in (唐政欽), Ku Heng-ch'ang (古恆昌), Ts'ai Hui-ch'ing (蔡惠卿), Ch'en Chia-hsiang (陳嘉祥), Li Hsuan-chi (黎璇璣), Lin Ming-o (林明娥), Hsieh Jung-che (謝榮哲), Yu Hsin-ya (余新牙), and Ch'en Cheng (陳正). Their contribution added a thematic monument and a literary walkway to the Hung Hsing-fu Literary Memorial Park. During the project, the literary figures Wu Sheng (吳晟), K'ang Yuan (康原), and Hsieh Ssu-hai (謝四海) were specially invited to assist in the planning. The thematic stone monument is located at the park entrance. Both sides of the literary walkway are equipped with interpretive plaques containing Hung Hsing-fu's works and commentaries and reminiscences about him by the literary figures Wu Sheng (吳晟), K'ang Yuan (康原), Hsieh Ssu-hai (謝四海), and Liao Yung-lai (廖永來). Additionally, a thematic marker and an "In Remembrance" signpost created by Hung Hsing-fu's younger brother, Mr. Hung Ma-liang (洪媽量), have been added at Hung Hsing-fu's former residence.
