"Gazing from Afar" Online Exhibition
This work uses as its imagery the "Kao Character Tower," the signal tower at the entrance of the second harbor built when the Kaohsiung Port expansion severed the Chung-chou Peninsula. The two towers, gazing at yet confronting each other, symbolize both the port's openness and expansion, and reflect the severing of the land, the relocation of residents from Hung-mao Port and Chi-chin Peninsula, and the historical absence of the southern tower, which was never put into operation. Personal family memories overlap within, refracting the macroscopic changes of the port and the nihilism of daily life.
