Fragments and Echoes - Wang Shu-ling (王淑鈴) Solo Exhibition
Professor Chen Kuang-yi (陳貺怡) uses easy-to-understand metaphors to help us grasp the difference between figurative and abstract painting: whether the artist wants to express "beautiful flowers" or "the beauty of flowers" - the former focuses on the posture of the flowers, while the latter focuses on the viewer's feeling.
This echoes what the pioneer of abstract art, Kandinsky, said - creation originates from the inner necessity deep in the human soul. Therefore, every color and every brushstroke, though without a specific narrative, can represent some meaning. From this perspective, it seems easier to resonate with every image Wang Shu-ling creates, sometimes so passionate, sometimes so serene.
Looking back at Monet's later series "Haystacks" and "Rouen Cathedral," each subject was painted multiple times. At that point, the focus was no longer the object itself, but the "atmosphere" woven by light, shadow, temperature, etc., at different moments, bringing such different feelings. This is just like Wang Shu-ling's creations, between abstraction and figuration, both nature and the place where her emotions reside, both depicting the world she yearns for and a spiritual pilgrimage into the inner self, allowing viewers to see the truest reflection of the artist's soul in the flow of colors and lines.
