"City, Island, and Memory" Hung Ming-chueh 2026 Solo Exhibition
This exhibition will be presented through two-dimensional paintings. For me, born on Liuqiu Island, memory and the sea are inseparable. Even though I moved to Tungkang, Taipei, Melbourne, Kaohsiung, and other places after elementary school, and even though this oceanic DNA has been baptized by multiple cultures, as Doreen Barbara Massey constantly emphasizes, 'place' does not disappear in globalization but is recreated in new ways. It helps us understand that localization and globalization are not opposites but mutually shape each other. This challenges the pessimistic view that 'globalization eliminates place.' In other words, this exhibition will be based on the spatiotemporal intersection between cities and islands; the sparks they collide with are worth pondering!
