Changhua County Library - Calligraphy Hall Permanent Special Exhibition
Calligraphy Art and Supplies Exhibition

The county was established in the first year of the Yung-cheng reign (1723). As Lukang served as a commercial port, its prosperous commerce spurred a flourishing literary culture, marking the starting point of the county's cultural development, extending to Changhua, Yuanlin, Peitou, Erhlin, Hemei, and other areas, producing numerous masters of poetry, literature, calligraphy, and painting. To this day, the atmosphere for learning calligraphy in Changhua County remains stronger than in other counties and cities.
The prevalence of calligraphy art and the numerous private societies are notably evident in various exhibitions, competitions, and poetry events. Recognizing the active calligraphy culture, the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau established the Calligraphy Hall in 2015 as an important base for promoting calligraphy.
Mr. Nien Wen-i (粘文意), a disciple of the renowned calligrapher Huang Tsu-hui (黃祖輝), has collected calligraphy-related materials for over 50 years since his youth, amassing a collection of copybooks, reference books, calligraphy theory, and periodicals that has been highly praised. As Mr. Nien advanced in age, grateful for the mentorship he received, he decided to donate his lifelong collection of approximately 2,500 items to the "Calligraphy Hall" for exhibition and to be available for calligraphy enthusiasts to consult and study.
The Calligraphy Hall of the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau undertakes the mission of passing on the torch of calligraphy art. As the county's calligraphy research and promotion center, its purposes are preservation, research, exhibition, and promotion, providing a venue for the public for calligraphy, education, or academic research. It plans permanent and thematic calligraphy exhibitions and regularly holds promotional events and lectures, allowing the public to rediscover the new value of calligraphy art and enjoy it, thereby comprehensively enhancing the cultural life of county residents.
