Exhibitions Now On
Changhua County 1895 Bagua Mountain Anti-Japanese and Taiwan-Defense Historical Sites Permanent Exhibition
At the entrance of the hall, a series of display boards reveal the Qing court's defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War, the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceding Taiwan, and the initiation of a series of anti-Japanese and Taiwan-defense wars by the Taiwanese people. In the 1895 Yiwei War, anti-Japanese volunteer forces fought all the way to Bagua Mountain, writing a tragic page in history with their bloody struggle. Unfortunately, due to insufficient film funding, this part was not elaborated on much, but the bravery of the Taiwanese people, and even the people of Changhua, in loving Taiwan and defending the nation cannot be erased from history.
A guide explained the historical site of the Shunpan-ro (Spring Sail Pavilion) to children from a nursery school visiting the Anti-Japanese and Taiwan-Defense Historical Site Museum. He said, 'Shunpan-ro is a very beautiful name, but over 100 years ago, something unfortunate happened there. The Qing court negotiated with Japan, resulting in Taiwan being ceded to Japan.' The children blinked their innocent eyes and nodded, seeming to understand but not fully.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau Director stated that the County Magistrate instructed in 2006 to plan air-raid shelters and tunnels with the concept of a war historical site park area, to唤起全民的抗日戰役記憶 (awaken the public's memory of the anti-Japanese war), and to add a new recreational theme to the Bagua Mountain Great Buddha Scenic Area. Therefore, the Cultural Affairs Bureau constructed the 'Bagua Mountain War History Tunnel - Air-Raid Shelter Experience Area' and planned the 'Anti-Japanese Martyrs' Memorial Monument Park as the Yiwei Taiwan-Defense Peace Memorial Park.' The Yiwei Taiwan-Defense Peace Memorial Park was completed in February of this year.
