Chang Hsueh-liang (張學良) Former Residence Permanent Exhibition
A traditional Japanese-style wooden house, built along the Shangping River, connected to the outside only by a narrow road, highlighting the sorrow of the General being forced into isolation. From this time began the General's thirteen-year life of confinement without freedom in the Chingchuan Tribe. The generous and tragic life of General Chang Hsueh-liang has had a profound and immense impact on later generations. For this reason, the Hsinchu County Government reconstructed his former residence where he was confined on the original site. We were fortunate to receive support from the General's niece, who provided many historical documents and photos, hoping that through the re-presentation of historical materials and the reconstruction of the residence environment, the world can more clearly understand the legendary story of General Chang Hsueh-liang's life.
