Basic Calligraphy Class

＊Holding and using the brush: Students will understand basic methods of holding and using the brush, and develop good sitting posture.
＊The Eight Principles of Yong (永字八法): Learn the basic brush strokes of calligraphy: side dot, horizontal, vertical, hook, upward flick, long left-falling stroke, short left-falling stroke, right-falling stroke, and the folding technique.
＊Common stroke faults: Students will recognize and avoid common faults in brushstrokes.
＊Introduction to script styles: Students will learn the characteristics of oracle bone script (甲骨文), bronze script (金文), seal script (篆書), clerical script (隸書), cursive script (草書), regular script (楷書), and running script (行書), and understand how to appreciate the beauty of calligraphy.
＊Forms of artwork: Students will learn various forms of calligraphy works, sparking the desire to create.
＊Knowledge of inscriptions: Students will learn the conventions of inscriptions, including placement, wording, script style, and the use of seals.
