2026 Shadow Puppet Artist Residency (Tung-hua Shadow Puppet Troupe)

Artists from the city's three major shadow puppet troupes - Tung-hua (東華), Yung-hsing-le (永興樂), and Kaohsiung (高雄) - will take turns in residence. During the residency, the artists will personally demonstrate the puppet-making process, including cutting, carving, and coloring cowhide. If you book a guided tour during the artists' residency, the artists will provide explanations. In addition to detailed content on puppet craftsmanship and performance techniques, there will also be opportunities to hear the unique stories developed by each troupe.
