The Owl in the Eye—Nico Tsai’s Illustration Exhibition
The Owl in the Eye is the first solo exhibition by illustrator Nico Tsai, curated by Professor Wen-Zhe Hsieh of the Department of Interior Design at Chung Yuan Christian University. The exhibition features nearly one hundred owl-themed illustrations, along with three-dimensional works in wood and paper sculpture. For many years, the artist has drawn inspiration from imagination and everyday experiences, transforming fragments of daily life into delicate and emotionally resonant imagery. Through this process, Nico gradually builds a world of owls rich in character and feeling.
For Nico, the owl is both a guardian of the night and a quiet observer of the world. The phrase “the owl in the eye” refers not only to the owl’s gaze, but also to the shifting states of mind reflected in the viewer when encountering the works. Each owl in the exhibition responds to moments of joy and sorrow, humor and tenderness in everyday life. Through fine lines and gentle colors, the works create a pause within the rhythm of a busy world. Centered on the ideas of observation and companionship, the exhibition invites viewers to slow their pace and experience the quiet warmth within the works. Under the watchful presence of the owls, visitors are encouraged to enter a gentle moment of reflection and begin a quiet conversation with themselves.
