[Yeh Shih-tao (葉石濤) Literature Salon Lecture] Chu Yu-hsun (朱宥勳) "If Yeh Lao Were Born Today, How Would He Debut?"

Date: 2026-07-04 Organizer: 朱宥勳
"At this time, Yeh Shih-tao (葉石濤) was seventeen years old, about to graduate from middle school. Since elementary school, he had been a young master with a love for literature and a relatively well-off family. He first submitted his novel to 'Taiwan Literature,' but it was not favored; then, he submitted it to 'Literary Taiwan,' and finally in 1943, with 'A Letter from Mr. Lin,' he was published in the magazine, officially entering the literary world. Although he also experienced rejection, Yeh Shih-tao, at less than twenty years old, was published in 'Literary Taiwan,' one of Taiwan's two major literary magazines, already considered a precocious genius youth." — Excerpt from 'Salt Belt Literature' 'From Romance to Melancholy: The Literary Journey of Yeh Shih-tao (葉石濤)' by Chu Yu-hsun (朱宥勳), October 2025.

Chu Yu-hsun (朱宥勳), winner of the Third Yeh Shih-tao (葉石濤) Short Story Literary Award, won second place in the Lin Yutang (林語堂) Literary Award for Fiction in 2008 with 'Wall Scab'; in 2010, he won first place in the National Student Literary Award for Fiction with 'Ink Grid,' and published the short story collection 'Mis-delivery' the same year.
He is a very active new-generation writer in today's Taiwanese literary scene.
The July [Yeh Shih-tao (葉石濤) Literature Salon Lecture] invites renowned writer and literary critic Teacher Chu Yu-hsun (朱宥勳) to imagine with us, "If Yeh Lao were born today, how would he debut?"
