"When Flowers Bloom" Japanese Contemporary Art Exhibition uses the metaphor of flowers as a guide to present the spiritual landscape of Japanese art from the post-war period to the contemporary era—between destruction and rebirth, art stubbornly sprouts like wildflowers from the ashes, blooming into diverse expressions of humanity.

The exhibition brings together sixteen master Japanese artists, including Yuichi Inoue (井上有一), Kazuo Shiraga (白髮一雄), Yayoi Kusama (草間彌生), Nobuyoshi Araki (荒木經惟), Hajime Sorayama (空山基), Yoshitaka Amano (天野喜孝), Yoshitomo Nara (奈良美智), Takashi Murakami (村上隆), Chiharu Shiota (鹽田千春), Mika Ninagawa (蜷川實花), Kohei Nawa (名和晃平), Aya Takano (高野綾), Ayako Rokkaku (六角彩子), Miwa Komatsu (小松美羽), Nakamuru Moe (中村萌), and Etsu Egami (江上越). The exhibited works span calligraphy, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and popular visual arts. Their works are like flowers of different seasons: some are intense and fervent, some are quiet and introspective; some are gorgeous and dazzling, some are profound as dreams.

Through these creations, we can glimpse the flow of Japanese art from inner spirituality to sensory desire, from individual solitude to collective memory, resonating with the nature, emotions, and time of the southern region.
