Wanhe Temple Surname Opera

Taiwan's traditional Surname Opera, also known as 'Family Name Opera' or 'Single Surname Opera,' involves local clans sharing the same surname or an organization formed by several surnames taking turns funding the invitation of theater troupes to perform operas as offerings to the gods. However, with the weakening of the clan system in modern society, 'Surname Opera' has mostly become nominal. Yet, Wanhe Temple still preserves this strong tradition of deity-offering festivals.
