Taiwan Sound Ensemble
Born in 2017, facilitated by composer Li Che-yi and established with the support of entrepreneur Lei Hui and various arts and culture enthusiasts, with a support association formed by Mr. Stan Shih, the godfather of Taiwan's computer industry. It gathers highly skilled Taiwanese musicians and is Taiwan's only professional ensemble dedicated primarily to performing Taiwanese music. In the past three years, it has performed over 150 concerts annually, with an average ticket sales rate exceeding 90%. The Taiwan Sound Ensemble uses classical music as its foundational language, aiming to "localize classical music in Taiwan and classicize Taiwanese music." It has currently recorded 11 albums and was nominated for the Golden Melody Award for Best Arrangement in the Traditional and Art Music category consecutively from 2020 to 2023.
Taiwanese music originates from memories of scenery and land, becoming melodies in everyone's heart. Throughout Taiwan's over 400-year history, many ethnic groups have left unique traces with their music. The Taiwan Sound Ensemble collects these elements, either reinterpreting old songs or creating new works, dedicated to refining Taiwanese music and creatively planning various performances. Audiences unite in the emotions evoked by the music, making concerts no longer elitist. The unique charm of Taiwanese music has also amazed the international stage, akin to a Nationalist Music movement happening in Taiwan, demonstrating the cross-cultural power of "the more local, the more international."
