Taiwan Amis Music and Dance Workshop

Date: 2026-04-11 — 2026-06-27 Organizer: 葉芬菊
This course takes the Taiwan Amis Music and Dance Workshop as its core spirit, integrating indigenous cultural context with physical practice. Through dance rhythms, step movements, and collective dancing, it guides participants to deeply understand the cultural significance carried by tribal dances. Indigenous dance is not merely for stage performance; it originates from daily life, rituals, labor, and living, serving as an important way for the people to transmit historical memory, values, and group consciousness. The course design emphasizes the cultivation of a sense of rhythm and the development of bodily awareness, allowing participants, through repeated practice and actual participation, to experience the connection between dance and the land, the ethnic group, and life.
During the teaching process, a "learning by doing, understanding by dancing" approach is adopted. By explaining the background of the dances, the meaning of movements, and cultural stories, paired with step-by-step practical exercises, participants of different ages and backgrounds can engage comfortably and learn freely. It simultaneously emphasizes the spirit of interaction and cooperation in collective dance, allowing participants to cultivate abilities of mutual respect, listening, and coordination while dancing together joyfully. It is hoped that through this course, participants will not only learn dance steps and rhythms but also build understanding and recognition of indigenous culture, transforming the unity, sharing, and vitality inherent in the original dances into actions and attitudes in daily life, allowing the culture to continue flowing within the body and heart.
