[Special Exhibition] "Inviting the Show - Puppet Theater Street" Special Exhibition
In the late 19th century, commerce and cultural activities flourished in Tataocheng, attracting many theaters and performance venues, earning it the nickname "theater den." The northern section of Liangchou Street, with its wholesale goods trade and proximity to wealthy temples and snack stalls, began attracting Puppet Theater troupes and Peikuan (北管) music societies during the Japanese colonial period. By the 1950s, Puppet Theater troupes collaborated with shops around Liangchou Street to set up liaison offices, turning Liangchou Street into "Puppet Theater Street," forming a cultural living circle that brought together businesses, music societies, and the public. This special exhibition revisits the everyday life scenes of Puppet Theater by introducing representative troupes active on Liangchou Street at the time, such as Yi Wan-jan (亦宛然), Hsiao Hsi-yuan (小西園), and Ha Ha Hsiao (哈哈笑). It also showcases the Tataocheng Theater's mission to promote traditional opera and local culture.
