Southern Taiwan Science Park Archaeological Artifacts Permanent Exhibition - Third Exhibition Hall

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: 國立臺灣史前文化博物館
How do archaeologists deduce the living culture of past humans from fragmented and tiny prehistoric remains?

By observing natural sedimentary soil layers and cultural layers left by human activities, archaeologists can establish temporal relationships within a site; by recording and depicting planar phenomena, they outline spatial relationships within a site; analysis of animal and plant remains unearthed at the site provides information about the natural environment at the time; examination results of artifacts such as pottery, stone tools, metalware, and glassware reflect the craftsmanship and trade networks of the ancestors, while research on burial human bones reveals information about the ancestors' physique, diet, diseases, customs, and more.

Relying on modern scientific analysis techniques, research conducted on objects unearthed from excavations is one of the main differences between archaeology and history. In the Third Exhibition Hall, actual boundary walls, feature samples, animal bones and plant seeds, and facial reconstruction models of human bones retrieved from archaeological excavation sites will be used to introduce the techniques applied in these research works and their findings one by one.
