[New Moon Art Appreciation] Entering the World of Islamic Art

Starting with understanding, learn how to view a complete artistic universe.

Islamic art is often misunderstood as distant, mysterious, or even existing only in news headlines, travel programs, or history textbooks...

But if we broaden our perspective, we will see a global artistic tradition that spans 1,400 years and still lives vibrantly in our world today.

Islamic culture worker Yuan Mo-wen (苑默文) has specially designed a series of courses to introduce Islamic art. The goal is not for you to "memorize styles," but to teach you how to see, how to understand, and how to feel Islamic art.

Teacher Yuan will start with the most fundamental questions, discussing what Islamic art is and its relationship with Islamic faith, civilization, and history. Then, step by step, we will enter its core and explore:

▪️ Why does Islamic art appear diverse yet always present a high degree of unity?

▪️ Why are calligraphy, geometry, and arabesque patterns not just decoration, but a visual language with logic, proportion, and spirituality?

▪️ How do materials and craftsmanship transform abstract faith and worldview into spaces and objects that can be seen and touched?

In short, this is not just a history course, nor is it purely art appreciation. It is a way of seeing the world, allowing us to learn how to see the same worldview being continuously translated, practiced, and sustained across works from different regions and eras.

Starting January 8, 2026, once a month on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 PM or evenings at 7:00 PM, you are welcome to join Teacher Yuan Mo-wen (苑默文) to start with understanding, using your eyes to see and your heart to perceive the world of Islamic art; learn how to see, how to understand, and how to feel Islamic art!
