[New Moon Art Appreciation] Chinese Art Appreciation: The Arrival of the Great Qing Dynasty!

Date: 2026-07-06 — 2026-12-28 Organizer: 新月藝文
On June 6, 1644 (the second day of the fifth lunar month in the first year of the Shunzhi reign), the third emperor of the Great Qing Empire, Shunzhi, entered Beijing and became the new master of the Forbidden City. With this, the Ming Dynasty was officially declared extinct, and the Jurchens from the northeast became the new rulers of China. After the establishment of the Great Qing Empire, everything became different from the past. Because the Jurchens had no historical baggage and no millennia-old Confucian tradition, they were curious about everything—not only Han Chinese culture but also all things from the West. Everything was re-fused into a completely new state. From every perspective, Qing Dynasty culture and art were unique: both traditional and conservative, yet chasing new trends. All possibilities unfolded over the 300-year history of the Great Qing Empire, becoming a great transitional period connecting to modernity. Starting November 10, 2025, every Monday at 2:00 PM, welcome to follow art historian Professor Chiu Chien-i (邱建一) to learn about and appreciate the development of Qing Dynasty art and culture, and the artists of the Qing Dynasty!
