"Weitou Bride" (《圍頭新娘》) — from cross-strait human memories to a touching story of marriage across the sea
Weitou (圍頭) is located on the Weitou Peninsula in Quanzhou Bay, facing Kinmen across the sea. It became well-known due to the "August 23 Artillery Battle" (八二三砲戰) of 1958. Its special geographical position has made this coastal settlement witness to important historical developments across the Taiwan Strait. Today, the smoke of past battlefields has become historical memory, while stories of exchanges between Weitou and Kinmen continue to circulate in folk life and cultural memory.
Over the years, Weitou's development has been closely intertwined with the life experiences of people on both sides of the strait. Whether through interactions, family ties, or cultural exchanges, these have left many human stories worth telling on this land, also becoming important themes for literature, drama, and artistic creation.
The Kaoka Opera "Weitou Bride" (高甲戲《圍頭新娘》) takes as its main axis the era of Weitou's gradual transition from a wartime settlement to peaceful exchanges. Through the joys and sorrows of two families and three generations over decades, it depicts people's hopes for family, love, and reunion in different times, as well as the life encounters brought by social change.
A sincere love story spanning the strait
A dramatic work portraying the changes of the times and the warmth of human relationships
An excellent Kaoka Opera blending traditional operatic art with modern narrative
We sincerely invite you to enter "Weitou Bride" (《圍頭新娘》), to experience the ups and downs of characters' fates and the flow of emotions through operatic art, and to jointly appreciate the unique performance charm of Kaoka Opera, as well as the human memories and life stories cherished on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
