Jean makes films and lives like a love story. Director Jean and his lover Catherine have been together for years but torment each other in an unstable relationship—sometimes deeply in love, sometimes arguing, breaking up and reconciling repeatedly. Jean's incomprehensible irritability finally exhausts Catherine, who leaves resolutely and starts a new life. Only then does Jean realize he has lost the love of his life.
