Leaving the Scene

Scenes from Departure is a documentary by director Ray Kam-hei Chan, winner of the Grand Prize for Taiwan Competition at the 2026 Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF). Through prolonged Skype conversations between the filmmaker in Taiwan and his father in Hong Kong during the pandemic, the film weaves together fragmented memories of the 2019 Hong Kong upheaval, tracing two men's awkward attempts to connect amid trauma and unspoken grief. Presented in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles, this work offers a poignant exploration of family bonds and historical wounds.
